Since 1976, Marks & Brooklier has been a leading criminal defense firm, handling all types of criminal cases, including murder, robbery, sexual assault, drug, and fraud crimes. Partner Donald B. Marks specializes in white collar crime, including fraud and money laundering.
Although based in Los Angeles, the firm serves clients throughout the United States in both state and federal cases.
Marks & Brooklier has represented defendants in virtually every major organized crime case prosecuted in Southern California, and has also defended numerous noteworthy clients in the entertainment business.
In 1980, Marks & Brooklier was lead counsel in the "Los Angeles Mafia" case and thereafter represented an alleged mafia chief in a major RICO conspiracy case. Then, in 1987, the firm represented a client charged in the "Record Payola" case.
In 1994, the firm defended the "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss in a widely publicized state pandering case which ended in a partial mistrial and reversal on appeal, and won a substantial downward departure in her federal sentencing hearing.
In 1999, the firm successfully represented an ex-Disney executive, whose well known internet sex solicitation case ultimately ended in a mistrial. During this case, the firm established the "Fantasy Defense," which has become a prominent defense in internet sex cases since.
Marks & Brooklier recently represented the alleged leader of the Ventura County division of the notorious "Hell's Angels" in a large drug conspiracy case.
Both Donald B. Marks and Anthony P. Brooklier have over thirty years of trial experience and extensive knowledge of criminal law. In fact, Anthony P. Brooklier was named Defense Attorney of the Year by the Los Angeles County Criminal Courts Bar Association for 2001-2002. Similarly, DBM was named Defense Attorney of the Year by the Century City Bar Association for 2000-2001. Marks has received the honor of being named a "Super Lawyer" in Los Angeles Magazine for the years 2004, 2005, and 2006. Furthermore, the firm was featured in the magazine's May 2000 cover story entitled "Pit Bull Lawyers."
